The Vet Pet Program Contribution Fund provides a much-needed monetary contribution of up to $100 to offset the overall adoption fee for U.S. military veterans adopting an animal, sent directly to the shelter/rescue.
As one of Coming Home Well’s ongoing initiatives, the Vet Pet Program works with local animal shelters and rescues to waive adoption fees for veterans searching for a four-legged companion to help ease anxiety and depression. This is an opportunity for animal shelters and rescues to show their appreciation for the sacrifice our service members give to our country and an opportunity to connect an animal in need. However, shelters and rescues are finding it harder and harder to waive the adoption fees due to overhead and rising costs of care for the animals. To help close the gap and to ensure Veterans are able to adopt, we need your help to raise funds for the Vet Pet Program Contribution Fund.
The purpose of the Vet Pet Contribution Fund is to generate a pool of funds that can be provided to shelters/rescues across the country as part of the adoption fee process. Your contribution can help to reduce or even completely cover adoption fees based on each shelter/rescue individual fees. What kind of impact can this have? A huge one! Why are we doing this? Because we have so many folks asking how they can help, and this is a great way to help our veterans and show our appreciation. As many of our service members are returning home, they often experience anxiety, depression and PTSD. It has been a proven fact a companion animal can have an incredible impact on healing those invisible wounds of war. So, we are asking our incredible listeners and supporters to join us in our mission to make the connection and show how much we appreciate the sacrifice they make so we may live our best lives.
How will this work? The Vet Pet Program Contribution Fund will provide a much-needed monetary contribution of up to $100, sent directly to the pre-approved shelter/rescue the veteran is adopting from, to offset the overall adoption fee. This fund will also help to open the opportunity to make the connection between veterans and their companions on a national level. Every shelter/rescue has their own required fee ranging from $80 to $350 due to veterinary expenses, transportation, feeding, etc. Saving animals (and Veterans!) is not cheap or easy!
